Ma’alot - Tarshiha is a successful, flourishing city situated in the heart of the Western Galilee, on verdant hills 600 meters above sea level and commanding a view of an enchanting mountainous landscape and the breathtakingly beautiful Wadi Koren. The city lies only 20 kilometers from the seashore. The jurisdiction area of Ma’alot - Tarshiha encompasses 9267 dunam, with a population of approximately 24,000.
Ma’alot - Tarshiha is noted for its gracious beauty: wide, clean streets, well cared -for parks, and bountiful greenery. Most of the houses are private homes or low buildings of no more than two-three stories. The breathtaking scenery and clear mountain air impart to the city a distinctive country flavor.
The mayor of Ma’alot - Tarshiha is Shlomo Buhbut, who began his public service as head of the local council in 1976. Between 1992 and 1996 he served as a Member of Knesset for the Labor Party. During his term in office, Ma’alot - Tarshiha has made steady advances in demographic, social, economic and community development.
